Governor Scott Walker Signs Silver Alert Public Safety Legislation

Governor Scott Walker signed Assembly Bill 710, authored by Rep Ken Skowronski, which established a statewide Silver Alert program.

According to the Alzheimer's Association, 60% of adults with some form of dementia or Alzheimer's will at some point wander.  The potential for life threatening harm increases if these individuals are not found within the first 24 hours.

The Silver Alert bill will allow law enforcement agencies to use the integrated crime alert network to disseminate reports of missing at-risk older adults with cognitive impairments. This bill is designed to create a safety system using DOJ’s pre-existing Crime Alert Network to quickly broadcast alerts or missing at-risk adults that may be in dangerous circumstances, similar to the incredibly successful “Amber Alerts” that are put out when a child is believed to be abducted.

The Silver Alert Bill is a life-saving solution for those at-risk adults with cognitive impairments that may render them incapable of getting to a familiar location without assistance.
